A discussion of the relationship between scientific research and artistic practices, moderated by Christian Ferencz-Flatz, with Márton Orosz and Jeff Silva.

The discussion, moderated by the philosopher and media theorist Christian Ferencz-Flatz, will address the relationship between scientific research and artistic practices, taking as its starting point the experience of laboratories and experimental research centres such as MIT and Harvard, where collaboration between artists, researchers and scientists has generated new forms of knowledge and of artistic production.
Márton Orosz, curator, researcher and author of the film György Kepes: Interthinking Art + Science. His presence introduces into the programme the figure of György Kepes, Hungarian-American artist, theorist and educator, founder, in 1967, of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) at MIT. CAVS became one of the important academic spaces for the development of forms of collaboration between artists, scientists, engineers and architects, contributing decisively to the history of media art and of contemporary visual practices.
Jeff Silva, American artist, filmmaker and anthropologist, one of the founders of the Sensory Ethnography Lab at Harvard University. His practice, which currently takes place at La Fabrique des Écritures Ethnographiques in Marseille, combines anthropological research and cinematic experiment, exploring alternative ways of observing and representing the world through image and sound. Silva will present in Bucharest, as a premiere, his new experimental short film, Mare Sapiens, and will coordinate a workshop at UNATC intended for students interested in experimental approaches to landscape, ecology and the moving image.
