Popular science films from socialist Romania

Bringing together research films and popular science films made in socialist Romania between 1965 and 1985, the programme proposes an exploration of the many ways in which scientific cinema observed and represented water. From microbiology and biology to hydrography, geology and ecology, these films recompose an interdisciplinary image of the aquatic world and of the way in which scientific film made visible processes and forms of life inaccessible to the everyday gaze.

Screening followed by a Q&A with Florin Zăinescu (researcher and specialist in geomorphology, University of Bucharest), Georgiana Grigore (researcher and specialist in microbiology, University of Bucharest), Ovidiu Daneș and Ana Szel (the programme’s curators).
